Ocean Powered Cars? Could be.

Saltwater71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans1.

That’s a lot of salt water!

What if all that salty liquid could power our cars? Well, that dream might be one step closer.

An amazing discovery by John Kanzius has led us to believe that by focusing radio frequencies on salt water, one can get the water to ignite!

It even gets hot enough to melt the test-tube.

As you know, where there’s heat, there can be power as well. Heating water to steam can turn a turbine, creating electricity.

How does this process work?

The radio waves bombard the salt water and separate the hydrogen from the water. This hydrogen ignite and keeps burning as long as the water is hit with radio waves. Depending on how efficient this process turns out to be (it takes energy to generate those radio wave), we just might be seeing the next big source of energy, and it’s 100% eco-friendly!

Hydrogen power has been at the tip of green science for a while now, but it has yet to provide and cost-effective, energy efficient version of the technology.

This is another step in the right direction, we’ll let you know how it turns out!

Dynamo Wind-Up LED Flashlights

LEDs are super efficient and can last for decades; it’s the lighting of the future.

….but it still uses some power, and if there’s a way to eliminate that, you can be completely non-reliant on the gird; if just for lighting.

Enter Dynamo.

Whether you want to eliminate electricity usage all-together, orĀ  just want a wind-up flashlight for emergencies, these two Dynamo wind-up flashlights are perfect.

.

DynamoDynamo Illuminator

The first one, the Dynamo Illuminator is your basic flashlight made eco-cool.

It features three super-bright white LEDs, and great charging efficiency: 60 seconds of winding provides a full hour of light.

Dynamo also claims the LEDs are “unbreakable”. While I’m obviously suspicious of an claim as unbreakable, it’s good to know durability is a concern.

The greatest thing about this flashlight is it’s guaranteed light. It’s a huge pain to realize your flashlight is out of batteries in the middle of the night during a power-outage. Since this flashlight uses LEDs, you can expect at least 30,000 hours of burn time.

Great product to keep handy for emergencies.

You can get this from amazon for $9.99

Dynamo All-In-One WIndup LED FlashlightDynamo All-In-One Wind-up LED Flashlight

This really shouldn’t even be called a flashlight; it has so many other features.

In addition to 3 super-bright white LEDs for light, it also features an AM/FM radio, headphone plug, audible alarm, and even a cell-phone charger!

All these are powered by the hand-crank, providing a full hour of light on only one minute of cranking.

No batteries to worry about.

This is the ultimate eco-emergency device and can be a lifesaver in an emergency. No need to worry about external power!

This is available from amazon for $14.95

.

These are two great examples of eco-friendly emergency devices. More importantly, they highlight the benefits of using grid-independent power. The long-lasting LEDs with wind-up power ensures you’re going to have light when you need it. The all-in-one flashlight also gives you several more emergency devices.

Having these devices can really save your butt in an emergency, and you’ll be happy to know you’re helping the environment at the same time.
