Boblbee Solar Charger

Boblbee Solar Charger

Another green iPod accessory today, the Boblbee solar iPod case is a solar charger for your iPod.

Featuring a stylish solar panel on the back, the case allows you to charge your iPod with the sun, allowing for infinite music play, as long as there is sun.

Charge time is expectedly a bit longer then plugging your iPod into the wall. The case will charge your iPod in about 8-10 hours. This does seem like a long time, but with modern iPods lasting about a day on a single charge, you shouldn’t have to worry about running out of juice. What’s even better is your iPod will be charged using 100% green energy.

When I saw this I immediately thought how cool it would be if this could be combined with a wireless speaker system for your bike. Unfortunately it can’t since they both use the dock connector, but with green technology becoming more and more popular, it probably won’t be long!

The Boblbee iPod Case is not available right now (at least in North America) but it seems like you might be able to order one from the Japanese product page. Anyone able to get their hands on this?

Vers 2X Wooden iPod Speaker

Vers 2x

This one reminds me a lot of the short-lived iPod Hi-Fi, but with one important difference, it’s made of wood!

Well of course there’s still some non-wood electronics inside, but the outside is paneled in cherry veneer. No toxic plastic or other materials, just 100% sustainable cherry wood. Perfect to accompany any bamboo technology you might have.

It’s not quite the ultra-green recycled-paper speakers we featured a little while ago, but these docks are also handmade, and come with 2 15watt 3″ speakers, 2 rear-facing subwoofers, a remote, and an audio input jack to attach a non-iPod mp3 player, CD player, laptop, etc. A whole lot better than just amplifying your earbuds.

The Vers 2X Wooden iPod Speaker sells for $179 from Vers audio.

Pimp your Bike: Wireless iPod Speaker

cyfi

One downside of riding a bike is the lack of a stereo. Sure, you’ve got your iPod, but it’s not quite the same.

There’s nothing quite like blasting some tunes in the summer with the windows open, and yes, I know that’s not the most eco-friendly thing to, but sometimes you just can’t help it!

Well now us bikers can take part too. Meet cy-fi,  the world’s first wireless bicycle iPod speaker. The system is only about 3 ounces, and broadcasts to wireless speaker (1 included) that mounts to almost any frame.

I thought it interesting that they mentioned the system supports up to 4 speakers through “multipoint broadcasting”. Could this mean surround-sound on your bike? We can only guess at this point.

This is a pretty sweet way to pump the tunes on your bike, but I’d really like to see a way to power the iPod through something like peddle power or solar. The company website reports the device only has a battery life of about 6 hours.

You can pre-order this for $149.95 from mycyfi.com.
